Australian Cycling Insider has confirmed with the Jayco Herald Sun Tour organisation that the 2020 edition of the race will continue despite the bushfires that have impacted the area.

The running of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour has been up in the air with bushfires ravaging large parts of northern Victoria through which the race is set to run.

After meeting with Victorian government officials during the week, race director Scott McGrory confirmed that the race will go ahead as scheduled.

“We’re good to go,” said McGrory. “Obviously it will be under watch and as long as it’s safe, one of the things coming from the state government was to get back into those communities to support the local communities and business, etc.

“We’ll be asking the teams to try not to buy too much in advance so they can come in and buy from the local communities and businesses we go to. But yes, we’re all good to go.”

The news is a significant boost for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, with it being the last year of the Visit Victoria sponsorship contract with the race, with the potential renewal affecting the future of the event.
